Thirteen Months Old

I thought about calling this post "Maddy eating lots of food."

She liked the potatoes until she tasted the peas and liked them more.

She really doesn't like being in her high chair (it has to be reclined partway).  She'd rather we hold her on our laps but she's fine on the floor, too.  I think she may turn into a carrot.  Carrots and bananas are her favorite foods.

She's not digging any meat I've tried so scrambled eggs is one of the way I can get her to eat protein.

From several weeks ago, when was just starting to pull herself up on the steps.

From last week.  She can place her weight on her legs for longer now.  She reaches for the second step and gets really annoyed that she can't bring her leg up to the first step.

Maddy overheats really easily, typical for her condition.  People always criticize me for not dressing her warm enough.  But they don't know that it doesn't take much to make her sweat.  I think that may be why she doesn't like to wear hats.  Such a shame, because she has some super-adorable ones.  She didn't mind this one, on this day.

What she does love is stealing Daddy's glasses.

She is becoming quite the character.  Some things she's done this month... She's not keen on books yet but loves the ones with babies in them.  She calls the babies, including her dolls, "day-day."  She plays the "hugging game" mostly with Mike, where she hugs a doll, then gives it to someone else to hug, then takes it back and hugs it again.  When she wants to be picked up, she does a silent "p" sound; I can't get her to make the "uh" sound yet, but it's so cute they way she does it.  She is still extremely wary of strangers and even acquaintances.  She very much wants Calvin the cat to be her playmate.  She has accepted that eating cat food will get her in trouble but thinks that drinking water from the cat dish with her hand is totally fine.  Thank goodness she is done with formula and is on whole milk, still in a bottle for now.  She can drink milk from a straw but prefers blowing bubbles into it first.  She is babbling a lot, to us, to herself, to her toys.  She tries to let me know what she wants with babbling and hand signs.  She has limited attention for TV, thankfully.  She loves watching home videos of Ben as a baby and videos of herself - they make her laugh out loud.  Because "day-days" make her happy.
