Unassisted Sitting

Maddy is spending more and more time sitting up.  It is so wonderful that she can spend most of dinner sitting in her high chair.  She can lean back or forward, or support herself with her arms.  It might be a while before she can get into a sitting position without support on her own.  But this week we found her sitting on the floor a lot more.

It started out as accidents like this, where she was playing with a toy, lost her balance and fell into a sitting position.  The first few times, she fussed and wanted to be rescued.

This time we think she may have sat down intentionally.  Of course, it's easier to sit like this while leaning into the toy...

...but then she sat up and let go!  Where's Maddy?

There she is!  Yikes, that's quite the peekaboo face.

Still sitting up, no leaning, no hands.  I guess someday soon she will figure out how to go from lying on the ground to sitting up.  But I think she'll continue falling into it for a bit.  She also has a tough time getting out of the seated position when she's done sitting.  I did see her figure it out one time - she spread her legs like she was doing a split, then just fell forward onto her tummy.  It's so exciting to see her gain strength and independence.

It just warms your heart to look at Maddy and see her progress! She has such spunk and determination. It's going to be so good to see you all again. We're already talking about a Fall trip to see you. Love, Dad
